8+ years building cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, and Gen AI–powered products — React and NestJS up front, Java and Node services behind, serverless AWS underneath, and LLM features built on Anthropic Claude.
01 — Experience
A startup platform team, fitness SaaS at scale, Fortune 50 retail, fintech, big tech, and a full-stack start in Kathmandu — each one sharpened a different engineering muscle.
Tech lead for the platform-services team — authentication, identity, shared infrastructure, and the product’s Gen AI features. Primary on-call for platform services.
Java/Spring Boot microservices at scale for a platform processing memberships and billing for thousands of gyms.
Full-stack work on the appliance e-commerce experience — React components in front, Java services and GraphQL behind.
Internal financial-data applications and a platform modernization — from legacy JBoss to React, Spring Boot, and OpenShift.
Internal engineering tools and services supporting product programs — with Apple’s bar for polish, privacy, and performance.
Where it started: full-stack delivery across React, Angular, and Spring + Hibernate.
02 — Skillset
Interface to infrastructure — with production Gen AI on top, not a demo on the side.
Product UIs in React and React Native — component systems, state management, and design-standard discipline from Fortune 50 e-commerce to startup portals.
Microservices and platform services on the JVM and Node — with API contracts and authentication done properly.
Relational and document modeling, schema and index tuning, and the caching strategies that keep high-throughput APIs fast.
Serverless and containerized infrastructure on AWS and GCP, written as Terraform, shipped through CI/CD, and watched through real dashboards.
System design for distributed, event-driven, and serverless platforms — with a platform-engineering mindset that turns them into paved roads.
The practices that keep production boring: testing from unit to end-to-end, code review and mentoring, on-call and incident response.
Gen AI in production, not demos: customer-facing LLM features on Anthropic Claude, RAG pipelines over internal data, AI agents on custom MCP servers — and Claude Code as a daily engineering multiplier.
03 — Services
Available for freelance and contract work — web apps, AI integration, cloud platforms, and IT consulting — held to the same production standards as everything above.
Full-stack web apps built end to end — from the first screen to the production deploy. New builds, rebuilds of no-code or legacy apps, and features added to an existing product.
Gen AI that ships: LLM features inside your product, RAG pipelines over your own data, and AI agents wired into your systems through MCP servers.
Serverless and containerized infrastructure on AWS, written as Terraform — plus authentication, CI/CD, and the observability to know it’s all working.
Architecture and code reviews, legacy modernization plans, and hands-on tech-lead support for teams that need senior judgment without a full-time hire.
04 — Approach
Six companies taught me the same lesson six ways: production is the only environment that matters. I write code that survives compliance review, on-call, and the engineer who inherits it.
On a startup platform team, shipping this week beats perfect next quarter. I scope ruthlessly, choose boring technology, and keep the product working while the platform matures.
I don’t hand off at the API boundary. Schema, service, pipeline, interface, dashboard — owning the whole slice is how I keep systems coherent and postmortems short.
Agentic tools multiply output, not judgment. I build LLM products for users and use Claude Code daily myself — and keep design decisions, reviews, and merges firmly human.
05 — FAQ
The short version — for recruiters, clients, and anyone skimming.
Prakash Thakuri is a senior software engineer and tech lead based in Austin, Texas. He has 8+ years of experience building web apps, cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, and production Gen AI features, at companies including ACE Virtual Shooting, ABC Fitness, The Home Depot, Fiserv, Apple, and Ambit Techno.
Yes. He takes on freelance and contract projects: full-stack web app development, AI and LLM integration, cloud and platform engineering, and IT consulting on architecture and modernization. The fastest way to start is the email button on this page, or a message on LinkedIn.
Full-stack web applications, interface to infrastructure: React, Next.js, and React Native front ends; NestJS, Node.js, and Java/Spring Boot APIs; PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or DynamoDB for data; deployed on AWS or GCP with Terraform and CI/CD. Past work includes migrating a 60K-user customer platform from Bubble.io to NestJS, e-commerce UI for The Home Depot, and financial-data applications at Fiserv.
He has built Gen AI features that run in production: customer-facing LLM capabilities on Anthropic Claude, RAG pipelines over internal data, and AI agents powered by custom MCP servers. He also uses Claude Code daily as part of his own engineering workflow.
Yes. He was tech lead for a platform-services team — owning authentication, identity, shared infrastructure, and primary on-call — and led a 60K-user platform migration end to end. Earlier roles included leading production incident response across distributed services and mentoring junior developers.
TypeScript and Java across the stack: React, Next.js, and React Native; NestJS, Node.js, and Spring Boot; PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, and Redis; AWS, GCP, Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes; and Anthropic Claude for AI features.
